Max Muncy's comments confirm he's loving the Dodgers' Evil Empire

As soon as the Dodgers collected both Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto last offseason, they made it clear that they were going to be the team to beat for years to come. Mookie Betts said at this year's DodgerFest that "Every game is gonna be the other team's World Series," and although he was almost immediately clowned for jumping the gun and hit with a lot of "this is going to age poorly"s, he was right.

The Dodgers winning the World Series confirmed that we could be looking at a dynasty here. Their first signing of this offseason was of Blake Snell, whose $182 million contract immediately made them the highest-spending team in the free agent market so far. It's no longer the Yankees' Evil Empire.

Max Muncy, who's now won two Fall Classics in LA, seemed to be eating it up during an appearance on Foul Territory. He was specifically asked about the trade rumors surrounding the Dodgers and Nolan Arenado, who could steal his position at third base if the Dodgers actually make a deal happen with the Cardinals.

Muncy said, "As long as I get to stay around, I don't care who they bring in."

Max Muncy wants the Dodgers to get anyone they can — provided he gets to stick around

If you're Muncy, you're probably at least a little concerned about the Arenado rumors right now. Muncy made it clear on Foul Territory that he would play absolutely any position the Dodgers asked of him, but the Dodgers' infield looks mighty crowded right now with Mookie Betts moving back there next season. If LA does get Arenado, that would immediately put Muncy's tenure in jeopardy.

The Dodgers could move him to the bench, but it'd be hard to justify keeping another $10 million+ player there (the other is Chris Taylor, who was benched consistently throughout the season for obvious reasons), and despite the fact that he was hurt for the majority of 2024, Muncy still has way too much power not to want him as an everyday five or six hitter.

But Arenado is a 10-time Gold Glover and Muncy's defense has never been stellar. Arenado's also stayed healthy pretty consistently throughout his career, and he's been a Dodgers trade target for a long time.

While it would be brutal for the Dodgers to give up Muncy, who they took from the Athletics' discard pile and turned into a two-time All-Star, Arenado could be the way forward at third if these rumors hold any water at all. Hopefully, the Dodgers would be able to find room for Muncy elsewhere on the field, because no one wants to see that guy go anywhere.
