Walker Buehler and the Red Sox made his signing official on Dec. 28, and he's been on a roll with the media ever since. He's already trying to recruit racing horse co-owner Alex Bregman to Boston, and while Bregman ending up there would be no tragedy for Dodgers fans, what stings a little more is exactly how hyped Buehler is to be pitching for his new team.

No one's suggesting he shouldn't be excited, but it still pokes at new wounds for Dodgers fans who were keeping their fingers and toes crossed for a return to LA.

A new hype video posted on the Red Sox's X account just twists the knife even more. In a clip from his introductory press conference, he says, "Hopefully I bring some value this year and get to play the rest of my career in Boston."

The rest of his career? Those are high hopes for a guy who's just on a one-year deal (with a mutual option for a second), but it's a slap in the face for all of the fans who might still believe that Buehler should've been a Dodger for life.

Walker Buehler says his goal is to "play the rest of his career in Boston" after leaving Dodgers

The Dodgers didn't extend the qualifying offer to Buehler, but David Vassegh said on AM570 that they had offered him the same deal — one year, $21.05 million — at the beginning of the offseason. However, he declined and chose to explore the market instead. He ended up signing after the Dodgers further packed their rotation with Blake Snell, but it sounds like Buehler wasn't really prioritizing a return to LA.

The fact that he got the exact same offer from the Red Sox makes it seem like he either overplayed his hand and really believed he'd get a better, longer and/or more lucrative, deal on the free agent market — or a change of scenery might've been what he was looking for all along.

Buehler's first-round draft pick, two-time champion status in LA seems like the perfect recipe for a return on paper, but maybe he felt like it was just time to move on to newer pastures. In any case, if this isn't just lip service and Buehler does end up staying in Boston long-term, that'll be hard for Dodgers fans to accept.
