Padres personality has bizarre take on Dodgers fans' mood during losing streak

If the season ended after the August 10 slate of games, the San Diego Padres (third place in the NL West) would be on the outside looking in at the 2026 postseason.

The Padres are just a game back, and they've been hot of late, going 7-3 over their last 10 games. But for some reason, their fans seem far more focused on the Los Angeles Dodgers rather than paying attention to San Diego fighting for its playoff life.

Ryan Cohen, a member of Jomboy Media, is just one of the loudest Padres fans taking aim at the Dodgers after Los Angeles's six-game losing streak. Cohen specifically called out Dodgers fans for "playing the victim" and using the six-game skid as a reason to prove that the club isn't ruining baseball.

This is no surprise. Every time the Dodgers make a big move, Padres fans and others across the MLB landscape cry foul, whether that be trading for Tarik Skubal, signing Roki Sasaki, or a plethora of other moves. Ironically, Los Angeles's financial advantage had nothing to do with the Skubal and Sasaki acquisitions.

Criticism of the Dodgers coming from Padres fans is rich, and only one team is a proven winner

If we're going to talk about spending money as "ruining the sport," how about we take a closer look at the Padres' roster. Between the contracts handed out to Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, and Xander Bogaerts, San Diego has spent $970 million. That's nearly a billion dollars on just three players.

And of the three, only Tatis Jr. has a wRC+ over 100, coming in at 114. Even then, the Padres franchise player didn't hit his first home run of the season until May 30.

There aren't many teams that can afford that kind of outlay to begin with, and even fewer teams that can still hang around in the playoff race with three albatross contracts on their books.

If spending money is equivalent to ruining baseball, then the production the Padres have gotten from that trio proves they're doing it wrong.

Now, what Dodgers fans are actually concerned with is what the losing streak means with regard to the club's end goal, a third straight World Series title. While there are reasons to believe that this is a blip on the radar for Los Angeles, Dave Roberts has expressed concern over the Dodgers "playing like a wild card team."

See the difference? One team is hoping to become a wild card team, while the other shudders at the thought of it because it is so far beneath its standards.

What we really see here is jealousy. Jealousy that the Dodgers have built up the kind of infrastructure where they can go out and land Tarik Skubal without the farm system taking much of a hit, while the Padres mortgaged their entire future to acquire Mason Miller last year, and now see the convergence of their barren farm system, poor starting rotation, and big-spending foibles coming to a head and putting their ceiling as a team that maybe sneaks into the playoffs, but only if everything breaks right.
