The first Dodgers-Phillies postseason matchup since 2009 started on Saturday, and some Philadelphia players have been weirdly but refreshingly complimentary of LA. Bryce Harper did say earlier this season that "only losers complain" about what the Dodgers did in the postseason, but JT Realmuto also described them as the "epitome of what Major League Baseball should be."
Phillies fans aren't in that same mindset. When Shohei Ohtani was warming up for his first ever postseason start on the mound, he was booed viciously by fans at Citizens Bank Park. When Freddie Freeman got on base in the second in Game 1, he was also booed viciously (though, to be fair, he has far more history with the Phillies as a former Brave).
It didn't even start at the park, though. On Thursday, the Dodgers' Twitter account posted pictures of Clayton Kershaw, Freeman, and Tyler Glasnow on a tarmac, heading toward the team plane, with the caption "Wheels up to Philly!"
For some completely unknown reason, Phillies fans took it as a shot at ace Zack Wheeler, who was shut down in late August with venous thoracic outlet syndrome, which he underwent surgery for.
How was it possibly a shot at Wheeler, you ask? We couldn't tell you. But the entirety of Philadelphia's fanbase decided to take it as completely misguided motivation for this best-of-five series.

Phillies fans somehow found a way to interpret an innocent Dodgers post as a shot at Zach Wheeler
One fan went as far as to tweet, "If this wasn't on purpose then that's actually really embarrassing and they need to have more situational awareness. If it was on purpose, that's even worse because this is literally life threatening? It's not just career ending, he could die and they're trying to be funny?"
What are we even talking about here?
The Dodgers post the phrase "wheels up" almost every time the team is traveling for a significant series. The Phillies have used it as a rallying cry for Wheeler starts for some time, but it's so clear that the Dodgers' admin wasn't thinking about it as deeply as Phillies fans think. If they were going to rage bait, we trust that the admin would've come up with something even better than that.
Phillies fans just wanted something to complain about, because their actual players were being total class acts about this whole thing. Everyone knows how Philly gets about their sports, and that's something that's usually (mostly) respectable, but this one is a total reach that just makes them come off as completely annoying and probably lacking a touch of media literacy.
