One day after Clayton Kershaw's utter dominance led to his 200th career win and an important 2023 Dodgers victory to stem a losing tide, Los Angeles will face an old friend in a Wednesday matinee.
The third game of this set will serve as the rubber match between the Mets and Dodgers, but the internal storylines make this so much more than just an April series-swinging baseball game.
On Monday, the Dodgers' bullpen -- with Alex Vesia at the forefront -- melted down in spectacular fashion, negating a fun mid-game comeback and leaving LA spinning yet again. Tuesday's game featured JD Martinez's long-awaited breakout; perhaps a 4-for-5 game with a pair of home runs would be enough to quiet the DH doubters, for at least a few nights.
Now, it's onto Wednesday's finale under the bright sun at 12:10 PT, with each team sending an old friend of the other club to the mound.

Dodgers Pitching Probables for Wednesday, April 19 vs Mets
Yup, this is the one you've been waiting for. After bumping his start out of the A's series over the weekend, the Mets will send Max Scherzer to the mound. Considering this isn't a playoff game, we assume Scherzer won't be complaining about his workload/tired arm if he struggles. Scherzer is 2-1 with a 4.41 ERA on the season -- but, at least, unlike Justin Verlander, he's been largely available so far.
And, for the Dodgers, it'll be ... Noah Syndergaard. Mets fans know him. They "love" him. And, while he's not the same fire-breather who once started a World Series game by aiming a baseball at Alcides Escobar's head, it still should be exciting to see what he's got left in the tank (and whether that includes a bit of additional juice meant for his former club).
