If you think Shohei Ohtani's $700 million deal boggled the minds of us normies, imagine what it did to his fellow players, who now have a higher target to shoot for?

Ohtani announced his move to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Instagram Saturday afternoon, leading fans into a frenzy about 24 hours after they were led to believe they'd lost the highest-profile free agency chase in MLB history to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Inside every Dodgers fan is one of two wolves. You're either a Chelsea Freeman or an Alex Wood.

Freeman, the wife of Dodgers All-Star first baseman Freddie, was joyful from the jump, composing herself long enough to head to Twitter and reveal that their adorable son Charlie's favorite player would soon be joining the team's clubhouse.

Dodgers wife Chelsea Freeman, alum Alex Wood have vastly different reactions to Shohei Ohtani signing

First question: What happened to Charlie's relationship with Fernando Tatis Jr.?! Dissolved naturally after Charlie's dad joined a Padres rival? Massive rift following the steroid suspension? Either way, Ohtani stepped up as an idol, it would seem, and now the youngest Freeman will have a chance to rub elbows with his hero every homestand. How cool is that?!

And then there's Wood, who wasn't quite as composed as Freeman.

Wood, currently a free agent after spending three years with the Giants, probably isn't seeking a similar contract for his age-33 season. But, if he can take up hitting and become a 50-homer threat by February, he just might have a shot.

It's refreshing to watch baseball players -- adults playing a kid's game -- reduced to being emotional puddles like Charlie Freeman at the idea of this level of financial windfall.

Of course, it's going to be similarly shocking/joyful for the 2024 Dodgers to get to share a locker room with Ohtani every single day. Wonder if that influences Kiké Hernández's free agent decision after all?

You don't necessarily need a company to come lift your jaw. Just call Andrew Friedman. He can fill your gullet with cold, hard cash and close that thing back up several million dollars richer.

When Opening Day hits, the Dodgers will see the pressure laid upon their shoulders ratcheted up another several levels. They're about to learn collectively that, yes, that was possible all along. At least, when the going gets tough, Charlie Freeman might just be there with a smile to remind them why they all got into this in the first place: seasons like 2024.
