The Los Angeles Dodgers' starting rotation has been decimated by injuries all season. The crippled state of LA's starting staff has all the talking heads, well, talking. More than 10 Dodgers pitchers have landed on the injured list at one point or another during the 2024 season, and it's certainly impacted the team's ability to find any sort of consistency among their starting rotation.
The most frustrating injury may be Tyler Glasnow's latest stint on the IL. One of the Dodgers' biggest offseason acquisitions, Glasnow has landed on the IL twice this season, but his latest trip seems to be for good. Glasnow will miss the upcoming MLB Postseason, further thinning the ranks of LA's rotation as they look to take home their first World Series since 2020.
Amid much speculation, Glasnow and the Dodgershave been extremely cryptic about his most recent injury. The right-hander revealed to reporters on Friday that he's dealing with an elbow sprain, but didn't elaborate much beyond that.
Tyler Glasnow's injury affects Dodgers playoff run, perhaps even the 2025 season
Jack Harris of the LA Times is reporting that Glasnow isn't sure what the treatment plan for his current injury, and that the All-Star hurler will be re-examined in a few weeks. Glasnow admitted being frustrated with the entire process, and said he'll begin throwing and “test it again and see if it holds up”. That is a rather troubling update, and brings questions about Glasnow's status heading into spring training next year.
The Dodgers better hope Glasnow's elbow "holds up". LA surrendered some top prospects and doled out a mega-contract this past offseason in order to bring Glasnow into the fold. Though he put up terrific numbers earlier this season, being unavailable when the Dodgers need him the most is frustrating and, sadly, predictable.
The Dodgers' rotation is already thin. If it weren't for the trade deadline acquisition of Jack Flaherty, Los Angeles would be in deep trouble. As it is, the Dodgers are without Clayton Kershaw, Gavin Stone, Tony Gonsolin, and River Ryan. Flaherty, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Walker Buehler are going to be relied upon to carry the load during the upcoming postseason. Bobby Miller's in the minors, where he belongs at this moment.
The Dodgers were hopeful to not only have a starting lineup filled with former MVPs like Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, but also a starting rotation with Cy Young-caliber pitchers as well. Glasnow's latest injury update feels like more of the same for a Dodgers' rotation that's been crippled by injuries this season.
