Dodgers vs. Phillies prediction and odds for Sunday, June 11 (Question Mark on the Mound for LA)

Game 3 is the rubber match after the LA Dodgers took Game 2 9-0 yesterday to even the series with the Philadelphia Phillies. LA is 2.5 games back of the NL West lead at 37-28 and needs a series win, but they have yet to announce their starting pitcher for the series finale in Philly. The Dodgers have lost two straight series.

The 31-33 Phillies will go for the series win with Taijuan Walker on the mound. Walker is 5-3 with a 5.04 ERA, but was excellent in his last start going seven scoreless innings and allowing just two hits against Detroit.

The Dodgers have been very late to announce a starting pitcher, but whoever takes the mound will hope to follow up the six scoreless innings that Bobby Miller posted yesterday in the win. The LA lineup will also look to follow up the beating that they gave Aaron Nola, 6.1 innings, seven hits, six runs, yesterday, but also the one they gave Walker last time they faced him. Back on May 1, the Phillies were out in LA and Walker went 3.1 innings allowing eight runs in eight hits with three home runs in a 13-4 loss.

The LA lineup has been great in June with a .792 OPS and league leading 15 home runs. The former Red Sox, JD Martinez and Mookie Betts have both caught fire this month, but the Dodgers are 4-6 in their last 10 games, dating back to the end of May. 

A big reason for the Dodgers’ recent struggles is their pitching staff which ranks 20th this month in ERA, 4.37 with 12 home runs allowed, the fifth most in baseball. For the season, the over is 37-25-2 in LA’s games. The Phillies were shut out yesterday, but they’ll do their part to cash the over in this one with uncertainty on the mound for LA.
