The Los Angeles Dodgers will get Tony Gonsolin back in the rotation on Wednesday after he missed the start of the 2023 season with an injury.

Gonsolin (26-6, 2.51 ERA last season) takes on the red-hot Pittsburgh Pirates in his first outing of the season. Pittsburgh is atop the NL Central with a 16-8 record, going 8-2 over its last 10 games.

Roansy Contreras (2-1, 4.57 ERA) gets the ball for the Pirates, and he’s coming off arguably his best outing of the season, tossing 6.2 innings of one-run ball against the Cincinnati Reds.

Let’s break down the odds and a best bet for this Wednesday night contest:

Dodgers vs. Pirates odds, run line and total

Dodgers vs. Pirates prediction and pick

It’s hard to handicap this game since we haven’t seen Gonsolin this season, but I am willing to fade Contreras in this spot.

The Dodgers haven’t gotten off to a great start, but this feels like a spot where they can pick up a win when you look at Contreras’ advanced numbers.

The Pirates starter is in the 43rd percentile in expected ERA and 35th percentile in expected batting average against so far this season.

Only the Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox have scored more runs than the Dodgers this season, so I wouldn’t be shocked if Los Angeles jumps all over Contreras in this outing.

If Gonsolin is anywhere near his All-Star form of last season, the Dodgers should roll in this matchup.
