Dodger Stadium became an ugly scene on Sunday night. Not just because the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a brutal loss in Game 2 of the NLDS to the San Diego Padres, but a number of fans took their hatred of a division rival a bit too far as the game spiraled out of control. Jeers and boos are part of the fan experience, but throwing stuff onto the field? That's crossing the line.

But the war of words wasn't just reserved for the fans in attendance. There were also two players going back and forth for a good portion of the night. Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty and Padres third baseman Manny Machado were jawing at one another for multiple innings on Sunday night.

It's possible that Machado was all up in his feelings, seeing as how he went 0-for-3 against Flaherty on the night. Machado represented the final out Flaherty would record on the evening, as Dave Roberts lifted his starter with two on and one out in the top of the sixth inning.

Flaherty appeared to have some not-so-kind words for Machado upon his return to the Padres dugout.

The Dodgers fanbase has no love lost for Machado.

A former player in LA, Machado abandoned the Dodgers after the 2018 season and inked a mega-deal with Los Angeles' bitter rival to the south. The moment that happened, Machado became one of the more hated players throughout Dodgers Nation.

So while Flaherty's stat line from Sunday's loss to the Padres β€” four runs on five hits with two strikeouts β€” might not endear him to the fans, his trash talk toward Machado certainly will. These are two teams that don't like each other, and the antics from Machado and his teammates on Sunday will only stoke the fires as the series heads to Game 3 in San Diego.

Padres players were getting under the skin of Dodgers fans all night

Jurickson Profar pulled a fast one on the Dodgers fans with a brilliant robbery of a potential Mookie Betts home run during the bottom of the first inning. Profar looked like he was on a pogo stick while playfully taunting the Dodgers fans that came up empty-handed. And, of course, Fernando Tatis Jr. was up to his old tricks in right field, while LA fans mercilessly hurled boos down upon the San Diego star.

Things got very heated on Sunday night, and one has to expect that Petco Park will be a raucous environment for Game 3 on Tuesday. And while Dodgers fans would prefer to wrap things up against the Padres without a return trip to Chavez Ravine, the prospect of seeing Flaherty berate Machado in a potential Game 5 would certainly make for good television.
