Tarik Skubal postgame celebration makes his Dodgers return feel more inevitable than ever

When the Los Angeles Dodgers traded for Tarik Skubal, it seemed liked they mapped out the road for the next several months. Skubal's arrival would help the Dodgers secure first-round bye, check. Skubal and the Dodgers would reach the NLCS en route to the World Series, check. Next up, the Dodgers complete the three-peat and Skubal signs a new deal to remain in LA at the start of the offseason.

What Skubal has experienced with the Dodger is everything he chased in Detroit but was never able to catch up to. For as great as the Tigers were in 2024 and 2025, there was never a belief that they would reach the World Series. That would be the reason why it felt like a formality that Skubal would be traded to the Dodgers at the deadline.

At the end of the day, LA gave Skubal the opportunity at something he never had with the Tigers, and it helps they had the best package of prospects to offer. While celebrating winning the NLDS can be somewhat overblown, especially for the Dodgers, it's worth noting how much Skubal felt like the man of the moment.

And it's more than just chugging beers, the actual signs were in what Skubal was trying to say while being interviewed. This wasn't the case of the Dodgers trading for Skubal, pitching him until his arm falls off, and then leaving the leftovers for someone else to deal with for the next decade. Skubal is now at the center of the Dodgers' universe, and the next step has become crystal clear, there is going to be a new contract waiting for him once this playoff run is over.

You already know how this is going to play out. The Mets are going to do what they do best and say they are going to be involved in the bidding only to be left with a full wallet and not the actual offseason prize they wanted. Heck, there likely will even be talk of Skubal going back to Detroit. It's all going to be a moot. Skubal is a Dodger, and will be a Dodger moving forward. Simple as that.
