The one trade Dodgers fans begged for but didn't get at 2025 deadline

All told, the Dodgers made four trades between Wednesday night and Thursday's 3 PM PST deadline. They brought in pitching prospect Adam Serwinowski from the Reds; minor league pitcher Paul Gervase and catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Rays; reliever Brock Stewart from the Twins; outfielder Alex Call from the Nationals; and outfield prospects James Tibbs III and Zach Ehrhard from the Red Sox.

LA gave up Hunter Feduccia, James Outman, pitching prospects Eriq Swan and Paul Liñan, and Dustin May for what eventually amounted to a pretty underwhelming deadline. Meanwhile, the Padres brought in an unbelievable haul by basically giving up their entire farm.

Dodgers fans expected a huge move akin to last year's trades for Tommy Edman, Michael Kopech, and Jack Flaherty; what we got was one reliever, a backup catcher, a platoon outfielder, and a handful of prospects. In other words, not a lot of pieces that will be able to immediately influence the Dodgers' 2025 season.

Past the deadline, a number of rumored trade candidates stayed exactly where they are. For Dodgers fans, the most disappointing of them all had to be Steven Kwan, who will remain a Guardian (at least for now) despite excitement about a blockbuster trade.

Dodgers shock fans with underwhelming trade deadline that didn't include Guardians' Steven Kwan

The Dodgers watched basically every player they were connected to get traded to other contenders. Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax, David Bednar, and Ryan Helsley were all dealt. Relievers were expected to be the name of the game for LA's deadline, and Stewart is a great addition, but because the Dodgers were linked to basically every elite reliever under the sun, fans certainly expected to see more.

And then there's the issue of a Michael Conforto replacement, a role Kwan would've played perfectly. The Dodgers got Call, but he's really replacing Outman. Andrew Friedman and Dave Roberts have insisted that their faith in Conforto would pay off — and it sort of has, as he saw a massive offensive surge in July. Maybe that was enough for the Dodgers to decide that they could save themselves some trouble and prospects at the deadline. Kwan would've been very difficult to get, and maybe the Dodgers didn't figure they were that desperate.

There are more names that could be included here. Brendon Donovan would've been an interesting addition to the infield, Harrison Bader went to the Phillies, and so on. But Kwan has been one of baseball's most consistent and underrated players since he debuted, and any hope if him being traded will have to wait until November.
