This overlooked pitching prospect has a wide open path at Dodgers spring training

Another trade steal for LA?

The Dodgers' bizarre three-team trade with the Reds and Rays at last year's trade deadlines ended up paying dividends no one expected. LA sent Hunter Feduccia to Tampa Bay and got backup catcher Ben Rortvedt and pitcher Paul Gervase from the Rays, and pitching prospect Adam Serwinowski from the Reds.

They let go of Rortvedt after the 2025 season, but he was an essential piece of the Dodgers' late-season success and the beginning of their postseason run, as both Will Smith and Dalton Rushing were sidelined with injuries.

Gervase got two major league innings after the trade, but he looks like a clear roster crunch victim if the Dodgers need to make room on the 40-man. Serwinowski is perhaps the most intriguing piece left of that deal, and he was the Dodgers' No. 13 prospect at year's end. He was reportedly a "favorite of Dodgers evaluators for a while" before they traded for him.

The Dodgers have yet to reveal their full list of spring training non-roster invitees, but Serwinowski, while still in Double-A, could be on it. Even if he's not, he could still get a few innings when games start on Feb. 21.

LA has an enviable amount of pitching depth, and more attention might be on No. 9 prospect River Ryan, coming back from Tommy John after an electric four major league starts, and No. 6 prospect Jackson Ferris, but we should still keep an eye on Serwinowski.

Dodgers top prospect Adam Serwinowski could turn heads at LA's spring training

Serwinowski left the Reds organization with a 4.84 ERA over 74 1/3 innings in High-A, but he seemed to figure it out following the trade, posting a 1.83 ERA in 34 1/3 innings with the Great Lakes Loons. It earned him a call up to Double-A at the very end of the season, though he struggled a bit in his one and only start in Tulsa.

His 60-grade fastball and slider put him in league with Ferris and Ryan, and his quick, jerky delivery is sort of reminiscent of Garrett Crochet. MLB Pipeline writes that he has "No. 3 starter upside."

Pitching competition is already going to be tough enough on players like Ryan, Emmet Sheehan, Gavin Stone, and Landon Knack — three of whom already have a considerable amount of service time. It'll be an even harder uphill battle for prospects like Serwinowski, who hasn't even gotten to Triple-A yet, but spring training could, at the very least, be his opportunity to turn heads and get the Dodgers thinking about giving him a quick promotion to Triple-A.
