While Dodgers are Dominated by Giants, Raptors Beat Owlz in Playoffs

Dodgers fans had their brooms out in anticipation of a series sweep of the Giants in San Francisco. It was not to be as Madison Bumgarner struck out 8 while only giving up 3 hits in 5 IP.

Meanwhile, with the Dodgers AA squad already eliminated from the playoffs, the Ogden Raptors had a chance to defeat the Angels Rookie league affiliate Orem Owlz, and move on to the Pioneer League Championship. The Owlz wasted little time scoring 3 runs in the top of the first, but the Raptors answered with 3 runs of their own on a HR from Joc Pederson.

The Owlz struck again in the third inning with 2 runs, but Ogden responded with a 5 run bottom of the 3rd and would never look back. Lasorda’s Lair favorite O’Koyea Dickson hit 2 HR scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. The Raptors bullpen was called on after only 3 innings and despite allowing 13 base-runners, worked out of several jams to close out the win.

Orange County native and Harvard Grad, Eric Eadington, who worked out of a huge jam in game 1, got the final out by striking out Taylor Lindsey the Pioneer League regular season MVP.

Next up for the Raptors will be a home game Tuesday most likely against Great Falls, who currently have a 4 run lead in the 5th inning of their game with Missoula. Ogden will host game 1 Tuesday at 7pm MT, game 2 is Thursday in Montana, and if-needed the Pioneer League Championship game will be played on Friday.

The Raptors may be the Dodgers final hope for a minor league affiliate title as Rancho Cucamonga is tied after 9 innings  Here’s hoping for a rally for the boys in Rancho to keep their playoff hopes alive.
