The Winter Meetings are beginning to heat up with Stephen Strasburg off the board. The Dodgers are still looking to make their first move.
On Monday the first big domino of the Winter Meetings fell as Stephen Strasburg returned to the Washington Nationals on a record-breaking seven-year deal. On Tuesday there were several signings including shortstop Didi Gregorius going to the Philadephia Phillies. Gerrit Cole and Anthony Rendon are still on the board though.
Mystery teams enter the Gerrit Cole derby
The usual suspects are in the hunt for Gerrit Cole and that is the New York Yankees, Anaheim Angels, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. In typical Scott Boras fashion, there are at least two mystery teams involved in the bidding. One could be the Houston Astros who are looking to bring their second ace back.
The latest according to Jon Heyman is that the bidding is getting serious and a deal could be reached by the end of the Winter Meetings.
Freeway battle for Anthony Rendon?
Angels’ owner Arte Moreno reportedly loves Anthony Rendon which could be bad news for the Dodgers. If the Angels lose out on Gerrit Cole they could try to add Rendon and another starting pitcher. The Angels cleared Zack Cozart’s salary in a trade with the Giants so they are being pretty aggressive in opening up financial wiggle room to make a big splash. The Halos also have interest Josh Donaldson who is another Dodger target.
Dave Roberts addresses the media
Dave Roberts had a media session and had several interesting statements. Roberts said that this could be the off-season with the most roster turnover since he became Manager of the Dodgers. Doc also said that Gavin Lux could be an option for the outfield next season. Dave also gave Justin Turner credit for starting what figures to be an aggressive off-season by being open to changing positions.

Kevin Gausman off the board
The San Francisco Giants and Farhan Zaidi snatched up a Dodger target in pitcher Kevin Gausman. Gausman signed a one year deal with the giants worth approximately $9 million dollars. The Dodgers viewed Gausman as a potential bullpen option as the right-hander has struggled as a starter but pitched well in relief during the last couple of seasons. The Dodgers are still looking to upgrade their bullpen.
Andrew Friedman to meet with Scott Boras again
A day after saying that he did not have any meetings scheduled with super-agent Scott Boras, Andrew Friedman will meet with Boas today and it will not be his first meeting with him. Boras represents quite a bit of players the Dodgers have shown interest in this off-season such as Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rendon, Josh Donaldson, and Hyun-Jin Ryu.
Andrew Friedman also reiterated that the Dodgers do have interest in bringing Hyun-Jin Ryu back. Ryu could be the fallback option for Gerrit Cole or perhaps the team will try and land Anthony Rendon while bringing Ryu back.
