Ken Rosenthal believes the Dodgers will sign Trevor Bauer in free agency.

It’s been a slow Winter Meetings, but thanks to some MLB insiders getting on the horn with Jomboy Media on Thursday, we at least have some insight in regards to what might go down during the remainder of the offseason.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were a big topic of conversation since they’re coming off a World Series win and face some pressing roster questions. Despite the global pandemic, it’s believed LA will spend (but not excessively), which gives them an upper hand of sorts since so many teams are exercising financial restraint to the max.

That could perhaps help the Dodgers move in on star pitcher Trevor Bauer. Though Bauer’s market has been quiet with only the New York Mets seemingly emerging as the potential top suitor, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, who appeared on Talkin’ Baseball during the Jomboy Media Winter Meetings, believes it’ll be Los Angeles that swoops in and signs the right-hander.

While this is only a prediction from Rosenthal, he’s a highly trusted insider who has access to a lot of information that the average fan obviously does not. He’s always hearing industry buzz and he’s arguably the top baseball reporter when it comes to breaking signings, trades and other news.

Bauer to LA has always been one of those “connect the dots” situations. Bauer is a star pitcher. The Dodgers love to bolster their rotation in any way imaginable. Bauer wants to play in a big market and win. The Dodgers provide both of those things. Bauer will command a lot of money. The Dodgers usually have the luxury of spending big.

So it makes sense why Rosenthal feels the Dodgers may have an advantage. They already have deep pockets and can shoo off others who are trying to get in on the action but might be hesitant to go over the edge to close a deal.

It’s an update you certainly want to hear if you’re a Dodgers fan, but there’d likely be a corresponding move if Bauer is signed — just something to keep in mind. The starting rotation already has Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Dustin May, Julio Urias and Tony Gonsolin. Perhaps one of those guys is moved into a full-time bullpen role or traded to address another area of the roster.

At the end of the day, we have no idea, but we enjoy having Rosenthal on our side for now. That’s a good feeling.
