The Los Angeles Dodgers seem poised to once again be buyers at this year’s trade deadline. And while that’s a good thing since it means that they’re willing to spend the amount of money necessary to win in the crowded National League, it also means that they’re once again going to need to make some necessary roster moves to fill up space on the roster for the reinforcements.

Here are three Dodgers who could end the month elsewhere after the trade deadline.

3 familiar faces entering their final month with the Dodgers as trade deadline looms

OF James Outman

While Outman is currently in Triple-A, he’s played in 217 games for the Dodgers across the last four seasons and has shown just enough for the Dodgers to keep betting on his potential. Chances are they’d be able to get another team to bet on that potential as well.

While he’s 28 now and doesn’t have the same kind of pedigree he had in 2023 when he was one of the team’s hottest prospects and finished third in the year in Rookie of the Year voting, there’s still a chance a team would be interested in taking a chance on him (he’s hitting .278 with 19 home runs in Triple-A this year).

He could also be expendable as well. The Dodgers have already shown that they don’t view him as a piece of their future, so any team looking to trade with the Dodgers won’t need to twist Los Angeles’ arm to get Outman as a part of their deal.

Outman would be the perfect piece to use in a trade with a team that’s straddling the line between buyer and seller, since he has MLB experience, but isn’t eligible for free agency until 2030.

LHP Justin Wrobleski

Wrobleski has been a godsend for the Dodgers as a swingman option this year, which has helped raise his profile with the team and could also raise his profile in trade talks.

While the 24-year-old southpaw has a 4.08 ERA in 35 1/3 innings this year, he posted a 2.73 ERA across 26 1/3 innings in June while working as a bulk man in the middle and late innings.

No team mixes and matches pitching quite like the Dodgers, but Wrobleski’s recent run of form has shown that his struggles last year and early this year are more of an aberration than the norm.

Yes, the Dodgers can’t have enough pitching, but they have reinforcements coming soon and will likely be in on the top arms available at this year’s deadline.  Wrobleski could help sweeten that pot.

RHP Bobby Miller

Much like Outman, Miller is another former Dodgers top prospect who has struggled to find success at the major league level. The No. 24 prospect in all of baseball in 2023, Miller posted a 3.76 ERA in 124 1/3 innings that year, which made it seem like he was poised to be the next great Dodgers ace.

Instead, the exact opposite has happened. He started 2024 strong before suffering a shoulder injury that kept him out for two months. He wasn’t much better once he returned either, which led to him being sent to Triple-A.

Things haven’t gone much better for him this year, as he got hit in the head by a line drive during spring training. He’s only thrown five ineffective innings with the Dodgers this year, and now has a 5.44 ERA in 185 1/3 career innings.

But that doesn’t mean that won’t be a team interested in taking a swing on the former top prospect. This could be a similar situation to Outman where the Dodgers could kill two birds with one stone by using Miller as a last-chance sweetener in any deal.
