The Dodgers may need the trade deadline to arrive in a hurry more than any other contender in baseball. Not only pitchers, but position players have gone down in the last few weeks, and there were already holes in their lineup that had been identified as areas for improvement to begin with.
LA has been connected to just about every trade candidate who would even make the slightest amount of sense for them, but there are some deals that fans desperately want to see get done - and some that they want the Dodgers to avoid at all costs.
3 trade rumors Dodgers fans hope come true
Dodgers trade for Emmanuel Clase and Steven Kwan
Getting Clase and Kwan would solve two of the Dodgers' biggest problems in one fell swoop. Clase isn't quite as dominant as he was last year, but still has a sub-3.00 ERA, and Kwan continues to be one of the most underrated bat-to-ball guys in the game. Clase could replace Tanner Scott as the Dodgers' closer, and Kwan would allow them to sail Michael Conforto down the river.
Dodgers trade James Outman and/or Bobby Miller
Outman and Miller's trade value has completely plummeted over the last two seasons, but maybe the Dodgers could package them into a trade and let them become another team's problem. It'd be better for the Dodgers to wring any possible value out of them, rather than to keep them and make Dodgers fans want to tune out immediately whenever they take the mound or step up to the plate.
Dodgers trade for utility/bench upgrade
The Dodgers might have adding an infielder a little lower down on their list of priorities, but it should still be there, especially since Max Muncy is out with a knee injury and Kiké Hernández will be out "longer than expected." Miguel Rojas has been hitting decently as of late, but he's made himself into a fan least favorite with multiple blunders on defense.
2 trade rumors Dodgers fans hope don't come true
Dodgers trade for Luis Robert Jr.
The conversation around Robert and the Dodgers has died down a lot since they were at their peak at last year's trade deadline, but Bob Nightengale reaffirmed earlier this year that, if Robert performed, the White Sox would be interested in a swap that would get James Outman out of LA. Dodgers fans would like one part but not the other, as Robert has hardly been better than Conforto offensively (though, to be fair, he is heating up) and has been injured this year.
Dodgers trade for Sandy Alcantara
The Dodgers have reportedly been "lurking" around Alcantara, who will be perhaps the most popular buy-low candidate on the trade market. He's started pitching like he desperately wants out of Miami — he threw a scoreless seven innings on July 23 — but his 6.66 ERA through that start is still hard to look at. Injury prone and not good this season — is that really what the Dodgers want to take on? They may not even have to, as Blake Snell is on a positive upswing, but fans will remain wary.
