The MLB trade deadline has arrived, and though the Los Angeles Dodgers are sitting pretty at this stage of the season, it never hurts to make some addition . LA has scuffled a bit following the All-Star break, and the team may need a few reinforcements to put themselves in prime position heading into October.
Unlike some of the small-market teams looking to make a playoff push during the second half of the season, the Dodgers can afford to bring on some All-Star-caliber players at the deadline without affecting their bottom line.
As such, LA may be better positioned to make some deadline deals that would bring back these five former All-Stars. While the price could be steep, the production these players offer might be too good to pass up.
5 MLB All-Stars who could be LA Dodgers after the 2025 trade deadline
Steven Kwan, Cleveland Guardians
It's questionable if the Cleveland Guardians will actually sell or stand pat at this year's deadline. Entering play on Monday, the Guardians were 3½ games back of a playoff spot. Cleveland's best trade asset is All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan. The Dodgers would love to move on from Michael Conforto, and Kwan could undoubtedly upgrade LA's lineup and their outfield defense.
Sandy Alcantara, Miami Marlins
Injuries have crippled LA's rotation this season, and there might not be a better pitcher available at the deadline than Sandy Alcantara. Though he's yet to return to the Cy Young-caliber hurler he was in 2023, Alcantara's most recent outing was eye-opening. After going seven strong against the San Diego Padres and allowing just one run, Alcantara could be on the Dodgers' short list as the deadline approaches.
David Bednar, Pittsburgh Pirates
The Dodgers need relievers — preferably at the back end of the bullpen. After some early-season struggles sent him back to Triple-A, David Bednar has returned with a vengeance. The right-hander's scoreless streak has reached 23 games, and the Pittsburgh Pirates are obvious sellers. Though the Bucs may be unwilling to surrender Paul Skenes, it's a good bet that Bednar could be moved for the right price.
Ryan Helsey, St. Louis Cardinals
Another back-end arm that LA could target at the deadline is St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley. With a 26% strikeout rate and 21 saves on the season, Helsely has become one of the hottest names available at the deadline. The Cardinals dropped two out of three to the Padres and look like sellers at this point — something they tried to do before the 2025 season began.
Kyle Finnegan, Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals were expected to compete for an NL Wild Card spot this season. Unfortunately, things have gone off the rails in DC. The Nats fired president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo along with manager Davey Martinez and are now expected to sell at the trade deadline. Kyle Finnegan hasn't been stellar, but Washington's closer has been effective. His 19 saves and 3.61 FIP would look nice in the Dodgers bullpen down the stretch.
