The Dodgers' front office must've been patting themselves on the back when they sent Gavin Lux to the Reds last offseason. It wasn't that Lux was a problem that they needed to get rid of, even if he clearly didn't fit into the roster anymore after they signed Hyeseong Kim, but the return from Cincinnati netted them something of a white whale.

LA took Mike Sirota in the 16th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, but he declined to sign and went to play college ball instead. The Reds picked him up in the third round of the 2024 draft, but the Dodgers got their guy and a supplemental pick when Lux was shipped off.

Sirota, currently in High-A, ended the 2025 season as the Dodgers' No. 5 prospect. Their top five is absolutely packed with outfield talent — Nos. 1-3 Josue De Paula, Zyhir Hope, and Eduardo Quintero are all outfielders — and there could be some shuffling in the order ahead of 2026.

Baseball America ranked Quintero as their surprise No. 1 Dodgers prospect in 2026, but they also had high praise for Sirota.

With praise like that, it's a little hard to understand how Sirota still landed at No. 3 in BA's rankings, but the effusive praise for a guy who isn't No. 2 will definitely rankle opposing fans.

Dodgers outfield prospect Mike Sirota called the "best athlete" in LA's system

Sirota absolutely tore through Single- and High-A this year after the trade, and he played just 24 games in the former before being promoted. He hit .354 with a 1.130 OPS with the Quakes, then barely slowed down with the Loons (.316/1.014). He had 16 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, and 54 RBI in just 59 games on the year. With numbers like that, he should definitely start his 2026 season in Double-A.

He has stiff competition in De Paula and Hope, who are a step ahead of him in Double-A, and Quintero, his Loons teammate. De Paula is expected to get to the majors first, but Hope and Sirota may not be far behind him.

The Dodgers are crowded with talent from top to bottom. There will always be the question of where they'll fit top prospects into the major league roster, or if they're developing for the sole purpose of pulling off big trades. Still, every once in a blue moon, a homegrown Dodgers player does get full run in the majors with LA (Andy Pages, Will Smith), and Sirota has a very good chance to be the next one to break out.
