A disappointing season for the Arizona Diamondbacks led to the club being sellers at the trade deadline, and more drama in the dog days of the 2025 season has made it all look worse. In fact, it could set up up another Los Angeles Dodgers blockbuster this offseason.
According to reports from Bob Nightengale, the Diamondbacks will listen to trade offers for All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte this winter.
Nigthengale wrote that Marte "can be a diva in the clubhouse, agitating his teammates and coaching staff." The D-backs are allegedly aware of this, but also recognize how incredibly talented and beloved he is among fans.
Some conflicting reports suggested this was overblown, but the overwhelming sentiment has been that some version of Marte upending clubhouse chemistry is true.

Dodgers Rumors: Ketel Marte could emerge as trade candidate in offseason
There have also been rumors spreading about Marte being a bad teammate, prioritizing things like vacation and playing in the All-Star Game over taking the field for the Diamondbacks.
Many of these rumors have been disputed and their validity is unknown, but it certainly creates a lot of interesting questions as Arizona heads into an offseason with difficult decisions to make ... especially if we're assuming the Diamondbacks (62-66) don't have some magical run in them to steal an NL Wild Card spot.
Should a trade for Marte materialize, the Dodgers could swoop in and present an offer their rival can't refuse. LA has the top-ranked farm system in the league and an ability to absorb any amount of money (and Marte is signed to a $116.5 million contract).
As for the roster fit, it's almost perfect. Miguel Rojas and Kiké Hernández are both unrestricted free agents this winter. Max Muncy is about to turn 35 and has a club option for one more season. Meanwhile, Tommy Edman, Hyeseong Kim, and Mookie Betts all have enough versatility to move around the diamond.
Marte would fit really nicely as the everyday second baseman for the Dodgers, who could include a prospect like Alex Freeland in a potential return package. The Dodgers have five prospects of the top 66 prospects in baseball, according to the new rankings from MLB Pipeline.
Arizona's farm system is one of the worst in baseball, with only two prospects in the new Top 100. The return at the deadline for Eugenio Suarez was underwhelming to most, and they could really use an infusion of talent to help build a young core around Corbin Carroll and others.
It's a tough decision. The pitchforks will inevitably come out if the D-backs trade a fan favorite like Marte in the division. But if he's truly hurting the clubhouse and needs a change of scenery, the Dodgers might be able to give Arizona the best possible return in a deal.
