You knew this was coming, Pete.

When Pete Crow-Armstrong stepped into the batter's box on Friday night at Dodger Stadium, he got exactly the type of reception you'd expect. The crowd on hand for the series opener between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs mercilessly boo'd the outfielder — and for good reason.

Dodgers fans won't soon forget what the Cubs' star said prior to the start of the 2026 season. Crow-Armstrong was speaking about going to Dodgers games while growing up in southern California, and his comments certainly ruffled the feathers of the LA faithful.

"I grew up going to Dodgers games when they weren't always good," Crow-Armstrong said. "Their fans go in phases. Putting the Giants fan in a coma stuck with me. Sitting in the stands, nasty stuff goes on."

That's rich coming from a player who's not necessarily known for his upstanding behavior on the field. Crow-Armstrong has been seen pounding his bat into the dirt and throwing a hissy fit at home plate after almost every strikeout — something that happens with regularity. He chases more balls than a clown in a windstorm, and is off to a horrendous start this season. He's hitting just .245 with a .629 OPS and a 46.6% chase rate.

Pete Crow-Armstrong, Cubs get last laugh with win over Dodgers

Unfortunately, the Cubs secured a 6-4 victory over the Dodgers on Friday night and Crow-Armstrong was a big reason why. The Cubs' outfielder went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Surprisingly, he only struck out once — though that number will almost assuredly go up as the series moves into the weekend.

LA carried a 4-0 lead into the seventh inning before things unravelled. Emmet Sheehan's brilliant outing came to an end in the top of the inning after a one-out single off the bat of Moises Ballesteros. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts turned to Alex Vesia who quickly recorded an out before a four-pitch walk to Crow-Armstrong. A Dansby Swanson triple plated two runs, and then Nico Hoener's RBI single brought Chicago within one.

Blake Treinen lost the lead after allowing a leadoff home run to Alex Bregman in the top of the eighth inning, and then Tanner Scott allowed a single to Crow-Armstrong in the top of the ninth. Swanson followed that up with what would be a game-winning two-run homer.

But, if Dodgers' fans don't want to be accused of going through phases again, they should continue to rain boos upon Crow-Armstrong for the rest of the series. Don't be fooled by Friday's performance. By Saturday, he'll be hacking like he's chopping wood and still can't find the log.
