The Dodgers have gotten to their MLB-best 16-7 record (unfortunately tied with the Padres entering play on Wednesday) without one of their many aces. Blake Snell never pitched an inning in spring training and started the year on the IL after gassing himself in the 2025 postseason.
Snell has found sometimes questionable ways to occupy himself while he gets some R&R, but his Twitch viewers will be missing him starting on Wednesday. The Dodgers announced that he would be making his first rehab appearance with their new Single-A affiliate the Ontario Tower Buzzers on Wednesday.

Given that Snell's barely thrown since last October, the Dodgers probably aren't going to rush him through this rehab stint, and there's a reason he's started all the way down in Single-A. But this is a huge step for him, and it finally gives a little more clarity to an otherwise murky timeline.
Brock Stewart is also rehabbing from shoulder surgery he underwent in late September. He came back to the Dodgers at the trade deadline in the deal that sent James Outman to the Twins, but he only managed to pitch 3 1/3 innings before landing on the IL with shoulder inflammation.
He returned to the mound in Single-A on April 14 and pitched 1 2/3 innings over two appearances before moving up to Triple-A. He pitched a clean inning of work in Oklahoma City on Tuesday while striking out two.
Dodgers Injury Update: Mookie Betts begins hitting progression
Mookie Betts' absence has reminded Dodgers fans exactly how deep this organization. Hyeseong Kim came up from the minors, and he, Alex Freeland, and Santiago Espinal are all getting relatively consistent at-bats with Tommy Edman and Kiké Hernández also on the IL.
Of course, the Dodgers are always a better team with Betts in the fold. He's been optimistic about his injury — an oblique strain — but still has to check all of the boxes before he can come back to the team.
He began a hitting progression on Saturday, "the biggest hurdle" in his rehab process. There's been almost zero updates on Edman's status, but a roster move is coming as soon as either Betts or Hernández are ready to come back.
Kim, Freeland, and Espinal might all lose their places when we finally get word on Edman, but for now, they're just fighting to stay as long as they can.
