Edwin Díaz and Blake Snell were both spotted on field at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, Díaz throwing to hitters and Snell throwing off the mound. Both are making their way back from surgery to remove loose bodies.

Díaz has been missing since April 20 after making just seven appearances in a Dodgers uniform. The day before he hit the IL, he gave up three runs on three hits and failed to record an out against the Rockies in a 9-6 loss. Snell returned to the IL after just one start in early May and underwent the same, less invasive NanoNeedle procedure Tarik Skubal did just a few weeks before.

Skubal made his return after a month and a half despite initial 2-3 month estimates. The Dodgers are clearly treading more cautiously with Snell, who is almost exactly two months removed from his last start. (Of course, the Dodgers don't need Snell as much as the Tigers need Skubal.)

Neither Díaz nor Snell have any chance of returning before the All-Star break, but there's no need for the Dodgers to push either of them. Tanner Scott struggled on Monday but has otherwise started to live up to his contract this season, and the rotation is overflowing with six options.

Renewed concerns with Tommy Edman's ankle has Dodgers proceeding with caution

Tommy Edman looked unstoppable in his first 11 games after returning from ankle surgery on June 16. Through the rest of the month, he hit .395 with a 1.031 OPS, a homer, and eight RBI. He went 4-for-5 on June 30.

Although he slowed down when the calendar changed over to July, it was reassuring that we had already glimpsed 2024 NLCS MVP Tommy Edman again after so long on the IL following ankle surgery. And then he took a foul tip off of that same ankle on Saturday.

Dave Roberts pulled him from the game and kept him on the bench on Sunday. He wasn't in the lineup on Monday either, but he did come in as a pinch-hitter for Miguel Rojas in the ninth (and was out at first on a sac bunt). He returned to the starting lineup on Tuesday, so fans will be closely monitoring his progress against the Rockies.

There's probably no need to be overly concerned, but the Dodgers have already had a couple of players come off of the IL only to immediately go back on it (Snell, Kiké Hernández). The Dodgers tend to be extra cautious with all of their injuries, so we'll see how they handle Edman after his first start since Saturday.
