You'd be forgiven if you forgot Austin Wynns was ever a Los Angeles Dodger. His stint in LA lasted all of five games in 2023, just a brief stopover between a single game with the San Francisco Giants and then 45 with the Colorado Rockies.
After being DFA'd by the Giants and electing free agency in April, the Dodgers signed him to a major league deal two days later when Will Smith went onto the IL with a concussion. Wynns went 2-for-12 with five strikeouts before he was DFA'd on May 1 and claimed by the Rockies.
On Thursday, he landed with his fifth organization since his brief spell with the Dodgers, when the Los Angeles Angels traded him to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash. Wynns was immediately added to Atlanta's active roster as longtime Quad-A catcher Chadwick Tromp was DFA'd.
Dodgers News: Shohei Ohtani joins Jacob deGrom on exclusive list
Shohei Ohtani lowered his ERA to 0.74 on Wednesday night, after pitching six scoreless innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Dodgers' 7-0 win. Just to emphasize exactly how good he's been, we'll put it in even simpler terms: he's only given up five earned runs in 61 innings.
The effort got him onto a list that was only one-name long for years. Ohtani and Jacob deGrom are the only two pitchers to have allowed five or fewer earned runs in their first 10 starts of the season since 1910.
The National League Cy Young race is already a nail-biter. Cristopher Sánchez looks like the frontrunner right now, but Jacob Misiorowski and Ohtani are going to make things interesting throughout the season. Paul Skenes, who's been struggling more this year, can never be counted out either.
Ohtani still needs to get his innings up, but ending up on a list with (almost) peak deGrom is a reminder that Ohtani won't make it easy on his Cy Young competition.
Dodgers News: Tommy Edman expecting three weeks of rehab before return
After a long silence on Tommy Edman's whereabouts, the Dodgers sent him to Triple-A on a rehab assignment on May 26. The team had been anything but forthcoming about his progress after an offseason ankle surgery, and then he was suddenly in the last step before a return.
His season debut is well on its way, but it's not right around the corner yet. Dave Roberts said Edman would need the maximum three weeks in the minors after being off of his feet for so long.
He's hitting .350 with a .909 OPS, so we'd say things are going pretty well, but a three-week stay lines him up for a return on or around June 16, in the middle of LA's series against the Rays.
