The Los Angeles Dodgers weren't able to sign Mike Sirota when they drafted him out of high school in the 16th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, but they still got their man three years later – and the timing couldn't be better.

Sirota, who was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the third round of the 2024 MLB Draft, still found his way to the Dodgers organization in January as part of the return in the trade that sent Gavin Lux to Cincinnati. The 21-year-old has been tearing it up in his first season of pro ball, earning a promotion from Single-A Rancho Cucamonga to High-A Great Lakes in mid-May.

Sirota, who has primarily played at center field, is slashing .374/.457/.702 with nine home runs in 33 games across both levels of the Dodgers' farm system. He recently cracked Baseball America's Top 100 prospects list, and he is already looking like the next blue chip prospect to join the likes of Josue De Paula and Zyhir Hope in the Dodgers' stacked organizational outfield depth chart.

Admittedly, Lux has settled in nicely as the Reds' primary third baseman after struggling to get consistent at-bats in Los Angeles. He is slashing .289/.382/.394 with one home run and 22 RBI through 56 games with Cincinnati, and he brings playoff experience and veteran leadership to an inexperienced team.

That being said, though, the Reds still look like a team with 30 years of playoff futility that's going nowhere fast. Lux's strong start to the season, as well as the fact that he has a year of team control remaining on his contract, may even make him a valuable trade chip if the Reds decide (as they probably should) to be sellers at this year's trade deadline.

While the Dodgers may have had seller's remorse after Lux's hot start with the Reds, they have to feel much better about the trade after watching Sirota tear it up in the minor leagues. If he keeps up this level of production, he'll continue his rapid ascent through the Dodgers' farm system, and we could be seeing him make a bigger impact in Los Angeles than Lux was able to.
