After a recent update to the list, the Los Angeles Dodgers now have five prospects ranked in MLB Pipeline's Top 100. 19-year-old outfielder Eduardo Quintero is the latest to crack the list. He is the No. 5 prospect in the Dodgers organization and recently entered as the No. 100 prospect in all of baseball. On Tuesday, MLB's midseason update had even better news; Quintero had already leapt to No. 90.
Quintero was also recently touted as MLB's "next star outfielder" by Baseball America.
Dodgers' Eduardo Quintero enters Top 100 Prospects
Quintero is having himself an outstanding season in A-ball with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He has gone from a teenage lottery ticket to one of the most promising young prospects in baseball.
Through his 65 games this season, Quintero is batting .319 with an on-base percentage of .430 and a .990 OPS. He has 33 extra-base hits including 13 home runs and 33 stolen bases.
He is showcasing every tool imaginable on a nightly basis and he's still only 19 years old.
"Quintero is a polished hitter who rarely chases pitches out of the zone and makes consistent contact to all fields," reads his prospect profile from MLB.com.
"His quick right-handed swing produces high exit velocities for a teenager that could portend 20-homer power, though he'll need to learn to drive balls in the air to his pull side to get there. "
It's safe to say that Quintero has started to learn how to tap into his power. He is on pace for over 20 home runs and over 50 stolen bases as a 19-year-old.
While he has already cracked the Top 100 list, which is significant, Quintero should be a prospect that continues to fly up the rankings when the end-of-season update is revealed, based on how his rise has already been reflected in the latest edition.
The Dodgers already have outfielder Andy Pages (24) playing like an All-Star at the big league level. Then there's No. 1 prospect Josue De Paula and No. 2 prospect Zyhir Hope, both 20-year-old outfielders ranked in the Top 100 already. Mike Sirota and Kendall George are also promising young outfielders that are still a few years away from being big league ready,
The next wave of star Dodgers outfielders is coming and Eduardo Quintero might be the most well-rounded of them all when it's all said and done.
