Ketel Marte is the very thing detractors of the Los Angeles Dodgers say Kyle Tucker is. That's not meant to be a defense of Tucker or his first year in LA, it hasn't been ideal, but when it comes to the character assassination that has followed the veteran outfielder since signing with the Dodgers, some of the takes have become extreme.

Tucker has shown up each day and has been there for his teammates. The results haven't always been there, but when it comes to the support system Tucker has with the Dodgers and his teammates, he hasn't ghosted them.

Which brings us to the annoying way the Arizona Diamondbacks have handled the Marte situation. Marte is the spitting image of having all the talent in the world but a heart that cares for nothing but himself. Things seemingly reached a boiling point when Marte went AWOL before Arizona's game in Boston last month. It wasn't the first time that Marte has done this, and it's why he no longer deserves empathy.

Everyone in the Diamondbacks' organization should be embarrassed. Their catering to Marte's selfishness created this mess, and because the kid gloves in which they handle their star infielder acting like a petulant child, there's never any consequences.

Ketel Marte drama could give Dodgers ultimate last laugh if Diamondbacks miss playoffs

Marte returned on Monday, addressing both reporters and his teammates. He scoffed at the idea that he had say something to the fans, who treated him with a parade of boos when he took the field. After the game, because he knows he can act with immunity, Marte took another veiled shot at the situation with his wardrobe choices.

The Diamondbacks aren't fooling anyone with what's truly at play here. Entering play on Tuesday, Arizona is a half-game out of the final wild card spot in the National League. That is the reason why they created a soft landing Marte.

They need Marte playing during the final month of the regular season if they are going to have any chance of making the playoffs. In reality, the only thing soft about this situation is how Marte and the Diamondbacks look moving forward.

It would be a true chef's kiss moment for the Dodgers if the Diamondbacks miss the playoffs after being exposed by one of their own. The whole situation is rotten to the core, and while the Dodgers have questions of their own heading into the playoffs, laughing at Marte and the Diamondbacks will be some comedic relief.
