Edwin Díaz signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers infuriated plenty of baseball fans. The Dodgers going out and making Díaz the richest reliever in MLB history was another reminder that LA's aggression on the market isn't slowing down.
New York Mets fans were particularly perturbed, but many of them directed their ire at Díaz, not the Dodgers. For Mets supporters, Díaz joining the Dodgers was branded as a ring-chasing ploy, an easy way out, and a quitting act on Queens.
Though the situation appears more complicated than that, fans made sure to express their anger when Díaz recently posted a new picture of him at Dodger Stadium sporting his new threads.

Comments under Díaz's photo were full of rage and disdain, with Mets supporters not holding back their resentment over Edwin's new loyalties.
One Mets fan on X wrote, "you're dead to us EdLose," and superimposed an image of Kevin Durant's face onto a picture of Díaz, referencing Durant's controversial ring-chasing move to the Golden State Warriors.
Another user wrote, "Can't beat em join em ... Mets fans loved you, not so much anymore." And another: "You a snake pal don't come back here to Queens ever again even when you retire."
It's worth noting that Díaz isn't the only star the Mets have lost this offseason to free agency. Pete Alonso signed with the Baltimore Orioles. But it seems like Mets fans view Díaz and Alonso very differently in reaction to their respective departures. One fan summed this up by writing, "When Alonso comes here next year he's getting a standing ovation. Meanwhile you're getting booed."
The reports surrounding Alonso's free agency suggest that the Mets didn't try that hard to retain him. When you pair that with Alonso joining a non-playoff team (at least in 2025) like the Orioles, it's a completely different situation than Díaz's free agency. According to reports, the Mets did make efforts to retain Díaz, but the overwhelming feeling from the outside looking in is that Díaz simply preferred the Dodgers, even if the money was similar for a return to Queens.
Mets fans might be bitter, but they might also want to consider their club's handling of Díaz leading up to his decision to bolt. New York fired Díaz-endorsed pitching coach Jeremy Hefner after the 2025 season, which likely displeased the right-hander. The Mets' front office also failed to make a simple phone call to Díaz before signing Devin Williams, which also reportedly had Díaz feeling some type of way.
Díaz didn't do much to dispel the ring-chasing accusations with his comments about choosing the Dodgers, but it's clear that problems in Queens — not just the temptation of championship Los Angeles — contributed to his decision.
