For all the money they spent in the offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers have really been let down by their starting rotation in 2025.
Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, and Roki Sasaki have all gone down with injuries at the beginning of the year. While Los Angeles believed the depth of their starting rotation was one of the team's strengths before the season, that is proving to not be the case.
The Dodgers current starting rotation includes Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, Clayton Kershaw, and Landon Knack. Five pitchers that have all had success in the Major Leagues before, sure, but Yamamoto is currently the only one of the group with an ERA under 4.00.
A 4.10 team ERA is good for 22nd in baseball. That's where the Dodgers rank at the moment, which is a big reason for the team's slower than expected start, fourth-best in the National League.
It couldn't hurt for the Dodgers to add another proven starter to their injury riddled rotation. Which is exactly why I'd keep an eye on Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta.
Freddy Peralta predicted to be traded
FanSided's MLB insider Robert Murray recently made some predictions for the swiftly approaching MLB trade deadline.
One of those predictions involved the Brewers moving on from Freddy Peralta, despite the team's recent hot streak and above-.500 record. Milwaukee is firmly in the NL playoff race, but that hasn't stopped them from making moves like this in the past.
"The Milwaukee Brewers traded Josh Hader with 1.5 years remaining on his contract. They traded Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams with a year left on their contracts. So it’s not out of the question that the Brewers could entertain the possibility of moving Peralta, who has a very affordable $8 million club option for the 2026 season," wrote Murray for FanSided.com.
"When the Brewers traded Hader in 2022, it upset the locker room, and their season collapsed almost immediately. But there will surely be interest in Peralta and with a surplus of pitching depth, the Brewers could be in position to maximize his value – whether it’s at the deadline or in the offseason."
Dodgers could blow the Brewers away with this trade package
The Dodgers are one of the teams that could have interest in Peralta at the deadline and have the prospects to give Brewers GM Matt Arnold an offer he can't refuse.
Los Angeles has five prospects ranked in MLB Pipeline's Top 100. They also have young talent at the MLB level that could be intriguing for Milwaukee.
James Outman, Gavin Stone, River Ryan, Emmet Sheehan, Justin Wrobleski, and Bobby Miller are all pieces that could sweeten the pot.
If the Dodgers called and offered outfielder James Outman, Jackson Ferris, and River Ryan...Would the Brewers actually turn that down? I have no idea what the actual price tag would look like, but I know that the Dodgers could afford to pay it.
It would help solidify the rotation for a Dodgers team that needs to improve if they wants a shot at defending their World Series title. Peralta also has some postseason experience, which is all the more reason to make the deal happen.
