Love him or hate him, everyone knows Dave Roberts is a Hall of Fame manager. The winningest skipper in Dodgers history, at the helm during this incredible run of dominance ... it's just going to happen. He has and will continue to make in-game decisions that baffle and frustrate fans, but at the end of the day, Dodgers fans know we have it good.

But there's a peculiarity to Roberts that prompts anywhere between fond exasperation to real rage out of Dodgers fans. The guy isn't great at keeping his facts straight.

Whenever a player gets injured, Dodgers fans know to take Roberts' evaluations with a grain of salt. It's a running gag now — if Roberts tries to downplay, say, a pitching injury, fans take to Twitter to sound the alarm. Guaranteed Tommy John on its way.

And he wasted no time getting the facts wrong in spring training. After Yoshinobu Yamamoto's Cactus League debut — 1 2/3 innings, 30 pitches, one earned run against the Angels, a game the Dodgers went on to win 15-2 — Roberts shook his hand and wished him good luck in the World Baseball Classic. Yamamoto will pitch again against the Giants on Friday.

When informed that Yamamoto was slated to pitch again before departing to pitch for Team Japan, Roberts said, "Oh, is he? I was in between, but then I was like, I didn't want to miss him for sure. So that's good that he confirmed that, that's great."

It's a harmless miscommunication, but it is funny that a manager as prone to putting his foot in his mouth as Roberts was so quick to make a mistake.

Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani's Team Japan is in Pool C along with Hyeseong Kim's Korea, Australia, Taiwan, and Czechia. The first round of pool play for Pools C kicks off in Tokyo on March 5, with the winner and runner up advancing to the quarterfinals in Miami at loanDepot Park from March 13-14.

The Dodgers have five major league representatives leaving for the tournament: Ohtani, Yamamoto, Kim, Will Smith, and Edwin Díaz.

We'll hope that Roberts can get the little errors out of his system early this year, but we're still going to be skeptical next time he comes forward with an injury update.
